This art shop's credo is "Fun art, functional art, fine art by local artists," and it does a fantastic job of adhering to it, while giving shoppers a funky variety of local art. Visitors range from Japanese tourists to local loyalists who support Seattle's art scene.
"When people come to shop for themselves they buy jewelry. When they come for others, they buy gifts," said Shawn McKay, who has worked there for more than a year.
The shop is filled with colorful crafts, and especially popular are the pieces by local jewelry-maker and glass artist Susanna Price. Candleholders cost about $20-40, and the detailed handiwork makes them the perfect gift for someone who appreciates the time and energy put into handcrafted art. Price also makes vibrant light fixtures to spruce up a dull apartment. Wallets, picture frames and magnets are great for a roommate or friend, and cards for all occasions are the perfect accessories to go along with gifts.
On the first Friday of each month, the store hosts a reception from 6-9 p.m., with a local artist in a small gallery that displays their work. For an impressive sample of Seattle's art, Frank and Dunya is the place to go.
