FREMONT: Burnt Sugar and Frankie

Share

What used to be two separate shops, Burnt Sugar and Frankie joined together to form a type of shoe and novelty shop in the heart of Fremont. The shop is divided into two main areas. The shoes, which used to alone be Frankie, are on one side while Burnt Sugar, which was something of a novelty shop, is on the other side.

Because it’s Fremont and it’s the center of the universe, just about everybody can find something here,” said Sunny Anderson, who has worked there for about eight years.

The selection of shoes is impressive, and not all are pricey. There are plenty of sales on everything from brown pumps to light purple and pink sneakers. There is also a good selection of Pumas in colors not available in mainstream stores. To go along with the shoes there is a good selection of handbags, messenger bags and laptop bags that come in a variety of styles. The store carries some Alchemy bags, which are locally made with recycled parts. A large Alchemy messenger bag costs $148.

Burnt Sugar has candles in a variety of scents ranging from Persian peach to lemongrass. Their skincare products and makeup are popular with students, and there is a large selection of masks that combat everything from pimples to dry hair. They also have small trinkets on spinners, including brightly colored luggage tags that declare “queen of the road” and “mine!” With all the shoes, bags and trinkets, it’s inevitable that you’ll find something at this shop you or someone you know will appreciate.
