Spring fashion

This spring, women’s legs everywhere will finally breathe: The dress is back. Women’s fashion this spring features dresses, leggings, oversized bags and the return of the waistline.

The item of the season is the dress. Most styles are either mid-length or mini-dresses and range in every style from the floral sundress to the black or white linen dress to the more futuristic metallic styles.

Floral dresses are now appearing in bold florals, a great new way to dress up an old print. The bolder and bigger the pattern, the less prissy and old-fashioned it seems.

The most popular way to wear dresses this spring is with a belt cinched right below the bust. Try a brightly-colored belt with a large buckle on a neutral-colored dress. Another popular option this season is a gold belt. The gold belt looks great for taking a dress from day to night.

Dresses are now often featuring an illusion hemline, an extra solid-colored hem at the bottom of the dress. This hemline gives the illusion the dress is shorter than it actually is. This allows those afraid of mini-dresses to look like they are still wearing one.

For the cooler days, leggings under dresses, tunics and skirts are still the way to go. Pair the leggings with a pair of flats or pumps.

Decorated necklines are appearing on both shirts and dresses. These necklines are great for going out, but remember, lay off the necklaces.

Oversized bags are once again the accessory of the season. Pick out a large shoulder bag in a versatile spring color such as cream.

For those who prefer smaller bags for a night on the town, opt for a clutch.

The retro look remains with headbands staying for one more season. The wide headband and the scarf headband are the most popular styles. Both look great with hair either up or down.

The pant of choice is the trouser. A popular style that has been appearing is denim trousers. This style combines a favorite fabric with a more formal option making it perfect for pairing with a blouse and pumps.

Wedges and metallic shoes return for yet another spring, but don’t forget the T-strap sandals and Mary Janes. The word “strappy” seems repeatedly used to describe shoes. Unlike flip-flops, shoes are catching heels and ankles more this season. Color is also a popular option. Choose a pair of Mary Janes in a bright color.

Remember as you walk through campus this season: Give those tired legs breathing room after a cold three months in boots.<
