No. 13 WSU 88, No. 24 USC 86 (2OT)
The dream season for Washington State continues.
In a battle for the second place in the Pac-10, Aron Baynes scored a career-high 25 points on a perfect 10-for-10 shooting night, and reserve Taylor Rochestie scored nine points in the second overtime to lead the Cougars to an 88-86 victory over the Trojans in Pullman, Wash., on Saturday.
WSU (24-6 overall, 13-5 Pac-10) clinched the No. 2 seed in this week's Pac-10 Tournament. No Cougar team since 1941 — that's before WWII was over — has won this many games.
When USC's Nick Young fouled out late in regulation driving to the basket, teammate Lodrick Stewart hit the game tying 3-pointer with six seconds left to send the game to overtime.
Down two points in the first overtime, Stewart was fouled shooting a 3-pointer with two seconds left. He made two and the game continued to a second extra period, where Baynes and Rochestie combined for 14 of WSU's 18 points.
WSU will await the winner of Washington/Arizona State in the Pac-10 Tournament; USC (21-10 overall, 11-7 Pac-10) will play Stanford.
Arizona 85, Stanford 80 (OT)
Overtime was played elsewhere in the Pac-10, but this game was more about turning around late-season struggles.
Ivan Radenovic scored six of his career-high 37 points in overtime, to lead the Wildcats to a 85-80 overtime win at Maples Pavilion on Saturday.
Arizona (20-9 overall, 11-7 Pac-10), behind Radenovic's 16 first-half points, built a 20-point lead early on, but the Cardinal rallied back, eventually tying the game on a Kenny Brown 3-pointer with 6.1 seconds left in regulation.
Marcus Williams had 15 points and Mustafa Shakur added 10 for the Wildcats, who will play Oregon in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament on Thursday. Stanford (18-11 overall, 10-8 Pac-10) was without the services of its leading scorer, Anthony Goods, due to injury, but also had five players experience food poisoning earlier in the week.
Stanford will play USC on Thursday.
Arizona State 42, Cal 41
In a low-scoring, grind-it-out game, Derek Glasser hit a 3-pointer with less than 14 seconds left to give ASU its second Pac-10 win of the season.
The Sun Devils had lost 17 of its past 18 games, but were able to earn their first conference road win of the year in their lowest-scoring output since 1991 on Saturday, with a 42-41 win in Berkeley, Calif.
Jerren Shipp was the only ASU player in double figures, with 11. Omar Wilkes scored 16 for Cal — all but two in the first half.
Theo Robertson's 3-pointer at the end rimmed off for the Golden Bears (14-16 overall, 6-12), who have lost 10 of 12.
Arizona State will play Washington in the play-in round of the Pac-10 tournament tomorrow night. Cal will play Oregon State tomorrow as well.
No. 18 Oregon 70, OSU 49
It was an easy win for the Ducks on Senior Night.
Aaron Brooks had 18 points in his last game at Mac Court, while Bryce Taylor led Oregon with 22 points as the Ducks beat their in-state rival 70-49 in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday.
Oregon (23-7 overall, 11-7 Pac-10) has won 14 straight against the Beavers (11-20 overall, 3-15 Pac-10) and three straight overall. The Ducks' 16 home wins tied a school record.
Oregon State was led by Marcel Jones' 13 points; the Beavers were down 16 at halftime.
OSU will play Cal tomorrow night in the Pac-10 tournament; Oregon will play Arizona on Thursday.
