After each recording their school record 80th career doubles win at the UW, the accomplishments of seniors Alex Slovic and Daniel Chu were recognized on Monday by Pac-10 commissioner Tom Hansen, who named the pair joint Pac-10 Men’s Tennis Players of the Week. This is the second season that the honor has been awarded in the Pac-10 for men’s tennis, and the second time the UW has been honored.

We truly appreciate this honor, and I’m very excited about it,” said UW coach Matt Anger. “I think it’s a recognition not only of Alex and Daniel’s doubles wins last week, but also of their success since they’ve been playing together this season and setting records for Washington.”

After playing together in previous seasons, Slovic and Chu first teamed up in February’s match against Oregon. Since then, they have been 7-0 at the No. 1 doubles position and have risen to a ranking of No. 31 in the nation. Their wins have included a victory over the No. 7 doubles team in the nation, Ryan Keckley and Sheeva Parbhu of Notre Dame.

Slovic and Chu have also been setting records at the UW. They currently share the lead for career doubles victories with 80 each.

This is the first time this season that a player from a school outside of California has received the player of the week honor. Out of the eight weeks that it has been named this season, a player from either USC or UCLA has been the recipient in seven out of the eight, with UCLA’s Benjamin Kohlloeffel receiving the honor three times.

Benjamin Kohlloeffel is a super tennis player,” Anger said. “He’s been winning a lot.”

The UW team will see how good Kohlloeffel really is this weekend, when they travel to California to play UCLA and USC.
