Did Peyton Manning deserve the MVP?

Mayers: It was an MVP-by-default situation, just like when Ray Lewis won back in the 2000 season. Manning wasn't phenomenal but he was very good, and in a sloppy game in which no one excelled, he was the obvious choice. Sure, the Colts' running backs combined for 264 total yards and the defense forced five turnovers, but come on, the Super Bowl MVP doesn't mean anything.

Schleicher: Yes. He led the offense and passed for 247 yards. Without him the Colts don't even make it to the Super Bowl. If Manning had his way and called all the plays Sunday night, the score could have been 65-17. Joseph Addai comes in a close second; he ran all over the Bears' defense. Anyone that thinks there should be co-MVPs in any sport shouldn't be allowed to call commentary on the game. MVP does not include more than one.

Caple: Oh my God, does it matter? The Colts won. Manning's their quarterback. I guess it makes sense. It's not going to make me lose any sleep. I just wish I could say the same about all his damn commercials.

Chartrey: Realistically, not one Indianapolis player stood out to me in its Super Bowl victory. Sure, Manning had his yards, but I honestly thought the Colts should have gotten together and collectively given their MVP to Rex Grossman of the Bears. The man gave the ball back to Indy FOUR times on turnovers. Two of which were gift-wrapped interceptions in the fourth quarter, and two came by fumbling the snap. He easily gave the Colts the best chance to win Sunday.

Who is the best team in college basketball right now?

Mayers: Isn't it Duke? Coach K. always has a perennial title contender. Oh, the Blue Devils are struggling this year? Never mind, maybe it's UConn — that team was unstoppable last year. They're losing too? What about Illinois, Michigan State, LSU or Arizona? Each team has dominated recently, but all are fighting to keep their tourney hopes alive. The moral of the story is all programs — even the best — struggle at times. Keep the faith.

Schleicher: Texas A&M, as long as it beats Texas. The Aggies went into Kansas, stuck with it when the going got tough and came from behind for the win. The game could have easily been a Jayhawk thrashing, since Kansas led by as much as 11, but Acie Law and his senior leadership showed why the farmers fight.

Caple: Washington State, obviously. If you talk to their fans, you'd think they're a friggin' dynasty. All bow to WSU, the only perennial basketball powerhouse on the West Coast. Kind of funny what one season can do for a fan base's arrogance.

Chartrey: The best team resides in the best conference in America. And for the first time I can say with confidence that the Pac-10 is the best of the bunch, and UCLA rules the Pac. The Bruins have it all, including big game experience — the majority of the team played in the finals just a year ago.

Will Spencer Hawes leave the Huskies after this season?

Mayers: Hawes will be the first to tell you he's not 100 percent ready to be a star in the NBA. And yes, in a season plagued with viruses and injuries, we've seen the 7-footer struggle at times — but we have also seen him excel. We have seen him at his unstoppable best, showing flashes of a limitless potential. With nothing in life guaranteed in terms of health or opportunities, I think Spencer will and should go to the NBA next year. Don't kid yourself, he's a lottery pick.

Schleicher: No, he's waited too long to play here. He may have the talent to play in the NBA, but he needs Lorenzo Romar to help him gain more skill. Plus, Nate Robinson will lose all respect if "You Rang" gives up on the Dawgs.

Caple: Will he? I guess that remains to be seen. But there's no way he should. The way this season has gone, and the time he's missed due to this and that ... I just think he can make a much larger impact on this program if he sticks around another year. Remember what people said about how helpful Brandon Roy's senior season was for him? I think we're seeing the same sort of thing here. Except Spencer Hawes is not God.

Chartrey: If the question were if he should leave, I would say no. He has way too much to work on, and rather than wasting some owner's time developing in the NBA, he should do it in college. Now, will he stick around? Honestly, I think as long as he is projected in the top five of the draft, consider the Huskies Spencerless.

The NHL All-Star game just happened.Did you notice?

Mayers: I noticed that the final score was 12-9, which is more unreasonably inflated than the price of textbooks. I also noticed it was on Versus, the Lance Armstrong channel formerly called the OLN. That was it, but I think it's more than most.

Schleicher: Yes, I heard about this supposed All-Star game they played on a Wednesday night. Hockey on TV does not work very well, so I found better things to do.

Caple: No. What happened to the lockout?

Chartrey: How'd Gretzky do?
