Weekly Gaming Roundup

During the empty, boring release calendar of winter, there is usually a complete lack of great games to choose from. This year has been quite the opposite, with Nintendo's Wii and DS continuously selling out of major retailers and with no shortage of games to be seen. This Tuesday saw the release of several new games. Here are three of them:

NBA Street Homecourt - XBox 360 - EA Sports Big - Feb. 20 -$59.99

No sports game pushes the limits of gravity quite like NBA Street. The latest game in the series, NBA Street Homecourt takes the high-flying, slam-dunking action to the next generation of hardware on the Xbox 360. For those fans that missed the recent all-star slam dunk contest on television, Homecourt could satisfy your needs. The basic premise of any NBA Street game is to take your real-life or madeup team of actual pro players to the street court and attempt crazy trick shots and awesome dunks for points. Homecourt takes this basic premise of insane trick basketball and improves upon it in more ways than Kobe can cross-over Shaq. The culmination of all your flip moves and sweet dunks is the "gamebreaker," which will allow you to execute signature b-ball tricks and slams in slow motion. The street flair of this basketball game combined with great sports action make NBA Street Homecourt hard to resist.

Sonic and the Secret Rings - Wii - Sega - Feb. 20 - $49.99

Sonic appeared late last year on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to mostly poor reviews, but this time Sega is bringing everyone's favorite blue hedgehog to the Nintendo Wii. Sonic and the Secret Rings will feature full motion support using the Wii Remote that should provide an experience that can't be found on any other platform. The game basically restricts Sonic to a set path, so you will not be able

to actually move Sonic forward since he will speed up automatically, but you will be able to steer Sonic around obstacles and through tunnels at blazing fast speeds. The game also features roughly 100 levels through which to speed your way, many in different locations and areas, and all leading you through the story mode. Sonic and the Secret Rings also features about 40 multiplayer mini-games that should

extend its value.

Supreme Commander - PC - THQ - Feb. 20 - $49.99

Sometimes gamers need an option-heavy and action-filled real time strategy (RTS) game to take up good chunks of time. Supreme Commander from THQ can probably satisfy your hunger for a new RTS. Supreme Commander is set in the future with three opposing groups all fighting for domination on Earth. There are hundreds of units to build and fight with and expansive territories to battle over. The sense of size and scale of this game is enormous to the point that you can literally zoom into a single combating unit and out over giant land masses to view battles from a distance. Expect plenty of epic battles and loss of personal time with this massive RTS game.
