PAC-10 Roundup

West Virginia 70, No. 2 UCLA 65

All year, everyone has been building up the Pac-10, but on Saturday West Virginia helped to bring the conference down a notch.

The unranked Mountaineers fought to a 19-point lead in the second half and held off a late Bruins rally to upset one of the nation's best 70-65 in Morgantown, W.Va.

Alex Ruoff scored a team-high 18 points, hitting three 3-pointers, and Frank Young added 14 points and seven rebounds for West Virginia (19-5 overall, 7-4 Big East).

It was the second UCLA loss in two years to the Mountaineers; it was also the first non-conference loss for the Bruins (21-3 overall, 10-2 Pac-10) this season.

Arron Afflalo scored a game-high 27 points in the loss. After a 15-0 run, UCLA pulled to within four, but WVU was able to secure the upset down the stretch. It didn't help that the Bruins were without the services of starting point guard Darren Collison, who was out with a sprained shoulder.

The Pac-10 leaders will travel to the Arizona schools next week.

No. 24 Arizona 77, No. 13 Oregon 74

The last time these teams met, Aaron Brooks hit the game-winner. This time, Oregon's senior point guard fell short.

Down by one in the closing moments, Brooks raced down the court and barreled into Mustafa Shakur for the offensive foul, then after two Wildcat free throws, Brooks' 3-pointer fell short, securing the 77-74 Arizona win in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday.

Ivan Radenovic hit a short jumper with six seconds left to give the Wildcats (17-7 overall, 8-5 Pac-10) a lead they'd never relinquish. Freshman Chase Budinger finished with a game-high 30 points for the visitors.

The Ducks (20-5 overall, 8-5 Pac-10) had four players in double figures. Bryce Taylor scored 18 to lead Oregon and Maarty Leunen scored 17.

Arizona will host the L.A. schools this week; Oregon, who has lost four of six, will travel to play at Cal and Stanford.

No. 14 WSU 59, Cal 46

Another win for the Cougars; more streaks and records broken.

Daven Harmeling backed his second Pac-10 Player of the Week award with 26 points, shooting 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, to the lead the Cougars to a 59-46 win over Cal in Pullman, Wash., on Saturday.

The Cougars (21-4 overall, 10-3 Pac-10) haven't won this many games in 15 years and are currently only a half game out of first place in the conference.

Cal (12-12 overall, 4-8 Pac-10) has lost six in a row and made only 34 percent of its shots. Freshman Ryan Anderson led the Golden Bears with 13 points and Ayinde Ubaka added 11.

The 46 points tied a season-low for Cal. The visitors also committed 16 turnovers.

Oregon State 59, Arizona State 55

It was another battle of the bottom feeders.

Sasa Cuic scored 22 points and Wesley Washington added 13 points and seven rebounds to break Oregon State's seven game losing streak with a 59-55 win over Arizona State in Corvallis, Ore., on Saturday.

Coming into the game, the Beavers (10-16 overall, 2-11 Pac-10) had lost 11 of their past 12, with the sole win coming against Arizona State.

The Sun Devils (6-18 overall, 0-13 Pac-10) have lost 14 straight, including all 13 Pac-10 games so far. ASU's past four losses have come by five points or less.

Christian Polk hit a 3-pointer to pull the Sun Devils to within one point in the final minute and scored a team-high 12 points for Arizona State; Allen Morill had 10.

OSU will travel to the Bay area schools this week; ASU will host USC and UCLA.
