Women’s Tennis | Weekend Tournament in San Diego

The UW women’s tennis team heads to San Diego, Calif. this weekend to compete in their last road tournament of the fall.

The San Diego Classic, hosted by San Diego State, will be fielding several teams that were ranked in last season’s ITA top 50. The Husky women finished last season ranked No. 72.

There’s a great amount of good competition for us,” UW coach Jill Hultquist said to GoHuskies.com. “It’s a good mix of schools. It’s going to give us a good indication of where we stand with some of the strong players in college tennis.”

The Husky women were eliminated in the round of 64 in the Northwest Regionals earlier this season and look to improve this time around.

We were out on the first day at Regionals, and UW should be better than that,” said senior co-captain Tara Simpson to GoHuskies.com. “We are better than that.”

After the San Diego Classic the Huskies will return home to compete in next week’s Husky Invitational.

Men’s Crew | Portland Loop awaits Husky rowers

The Washington men’s crew team will be competing in the Portland LOOP on the Willamette River tomorrow, three weeks after a first place finish at the USA Rowing World Challenge in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The eight-member varsity team won two of three races in Oklahoma City including a time of 13:34.85 on the first day of competition to edge out Harvard by just over four seconds.

The second day of competition in Oklahoma City was a bit tougher for the Dawgs. They failed to finish in first place for the first time in more than a year. The Husky men were the only college entrants vying to top several national teams in the field. They ended up third behind the United States and Canada.

This time, the men’s crew team will be racing against college competitors on a 7-kilometer loop in Portland that runs from Lake Oswego to Oaks Park. This will be the last road trip for the men’s crew team as they will finish the fall portion of their schedule at home on the Montlake Cut next week.
