Barbara Sjoholm's novel, The Palace of the Snow Queen: Winter Travels in Lapland, was written during the author's voyage to the home of Hans Christian Anderson's fairytale The Snow Queen. In her book, Sjoholm describes her winters spent among snow and ice architects and Sami activists in Northern Europe.
Global Leadership Series: Levy Mwanawasa — Kane 130 — 7 p.m. — $5 for students
President of Zambia, Levy Mwanawasa, will speak at Kane Hall to discuss development strategies for the country, the role of Zambia within the African Union, the spread of HIV/AIDS and its affect on society and other issues.

Anita Ramasastry, associate professor of law, will deliver her third in a series of lectures on "Privacy, Citizenship and the USA Patriot Act." Sponsored by the Simpson Center for the Humanities.

The Southeast Asia Center at the Jackson School of International Studies celebrates its 20th anniversary with a two-day conference honoring founding director Charles Keyes. Yale professor of anthropology and political science, James Scott, is the keynote speaker.

Burke archaeologists explore the history and culture of Puget Sound with a day "into the field" at Discovery Park.
Chamber Dance Company — Meany Hall — 7:30 p.m. — $10 with Husky Card
The UW's professional dance company celebrates their 19th season of modern dance at Meany Hall. Dance poetry from artists Michio Ito, Zvi Gotheiner and Laura Dean will be featured. Doris Humphrey's rarely seen modern dance "Invention" will also be shown.
