Wallace and White honored on All-Pac-10 lists

Despite missing out on a bowl game for the fourth year in a row, the 2006 season got a little bit sweeter for two members of the Washington football team.

Senior safety C.J. Wallace, in a file photo from last season, was named to the first team All Pac-10 squad yesterday, the only Husky to be selected for the first team. He led the conference in tackles with 105.

When the lists for the All-Pac-10 teams were released yesterday, safety C.J. Wallace and linebacker Scott White were among those honored.

Wallace was the lone Husky on the first team. He led the conference with 105 tackles, including a Pac-10 leading 62 solo tackles. Averaging 8.8 tackles per game, he was the team's leader on defense.

White received second-team honors, and led the team in interceptions with four. He also ranked seventh in the Pac-10 in tackles with 90.

Seven other Huskies were added to the conference's honorable mention list.

Headlining that list, as a surprise pick, was quarterback Isaiah Stanback. Despite missing the second half of the season, the senior was good enough to make the list, just missing the all-conference team.

The other six Huskies were kicker Michael Braunstein, punter Sean Douglas, cornerback Dashon Goldson, defensive end Greyson Gunheim, wide receiver Sonny Shackelford and guard Clay Walker.

Except for Gunheim, every Husky honored will not be back next season.

California held the monopoly on player-of-the-year awards, with tailback Marshawn Lynch and cornerback Daymeion Hughes winning the offensive and defensive honors respectively.

The coach of the year went to USC's Pete Carroll, and the freshman of the year was split between a trio of defensive backs: Jairus Byrd of Oregon, Taylor Mays of the Trojans and UCLA's Alterraun Verner.
