Pac-10 Power Rankings

1. USC as Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) — The Trojans do not need money or success. But they go after both because they like them. This Pac-10 kingpin doesn't go down easy, and there has been much muckraking from the media over their dealings with former player Reggie Bush. Yet they walk around unscathed and with a pompous air about them making them hated by most, but beloved by enough to stay on top. Also, they are not above selling out others in the organization to get ahead.

2. California as Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) — After a shaky start — a stay in prison for Costigan and a tough loss to Tennessee for the Golden Bears — both were off and running. Billy had himself as one of Costello's most trusted henchmen and Cal was riding high after USC went down, but in the end, getting shot in the head — or losing to Arizona — hurts.

3. Oregon as Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) — They both seem flashy and ready to roll with the punches. The Ducks' dynamic offense made them look like a title contender and Colin was set to find the rat in Costello's crew. But a secret impotence weighed down on both of them, leading to unfulfilled potential and a disgruntled fiancé, respectively.

4. Arizona State as Madolyn (Vera Farmiga) — We aren't going to sugarcoat it, they gave it up way too easily. First to Cal, then Oregon; they didn't even resist. Maybe next year they'll stay disciplined and turn in a full season's effort.

5. Oregon State as Staff Sergeant Dignam (Mark Whalberg) — Things didn't go well at work, Dignam was fired and the Beavers were booed at home on their way to a disappointing 2-3 start. But Dignam got the last laugh, and with the Civil War in two weeks, the Beavers might too.

6. UCLA as Captain Ellerby (Alec Baldwin) — They both have big reputations and immaculate records to push around, but they have had their hands tied. Some early losses to sub-par opponents by the Bruins and the inability to talk to Queenan's undercovers have mucked things up for both.

7. Arizona as Mr. French (Ray Winstone) — All unfulfilled potential. The Wildcats started with high hopes but have been pretty useless lately. Sure they flexed their muscles against Cal, but they are well past their prime.

8. Washington State as Fitzy (David O'Hara) — Three words: Big dumb muscle. Costello: "When I tell you to bury someone in the marsh, I mean bury them in the marsh! Stop laughing, this ain't reality TV!" Poor WAZZU can't get anything right anymore, whether it's getting "pinched" by the Arizona schools or blowing it against USC. Someone should call their mother and tell them that they won't be home for a bowl game this year.

9. Washington as Captain Queenan (Martin Sheenan) — At the beginning of the season everything was working for this old time hot shot. The program was building. The Huskies had their eyes on a bowl game and were looking to take down some major players. Then one fateful meeting with Billy Costigan gets them thrown off a roof.

10. Stanford as Barrigan (James Badge Dale) — Like a poor journeyman in the waste end of the department, Stanford didn't do anything all season long. Finally at the crescendo they get their moment in the season by "popping" one of the conference's major players. Sadly, the excitement of playing a hero is overshadowed by nearly simultaneously getting whacked, with resurgent Oregon State and California to end the season
